At a time when US residency programs have become scarce for foreign medical graduates, I suggested our alumni perhaps should help our young graduates. USTMAAA has committed to harness UST alumni potential to help UST medical graduates find residency positions in the United States.
UST medical alumni remain the largest of Philippine medical graduates in America, and many have academic appointments in their respective specialties in universities and medical institutions with residency training and/or research programs.
While many have stepped up, we call on all UST alumni who are in academic or teaching hospitals for their much needed help. Needless to say, the friendship and deep personal satisfaction arising from helping a younger colleague find a residency is priceless. Dr. Hernan Reyes, Dr. Jose Vijungco, I and others can attest to this.
Moreover, it is important for UST and our motherland, the Philippines, that our young colleagues obtain and complete quality residencies in the US.
Younger colleagues seeking residencies will need to pass all the requisite examination and fulfill US visa requirements. It may be necessary for young physicians to go through preceptorships to better position themselves for acceptance into the now more competitive entry positions.
The USTMAAA Residency Placement Committee will try to facilitate such preceptorships, if residency position cannot be obtained..
If you are a young fellow alumnus/a who has passed all or near all the required exam and US visa requirements, or an alumnus/a who is in a position to lend a much needed help, please contact:
