
Rena M. Nora, M.D. is a UST Graduate Class 1963 and the 2008 recipient of the Sapphire Jubilarian Award .
Dr. Nora is currently a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. She is also the Director of the Outpatient Program for Pathological Gambling at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System in Las Vegas. Dr. Nora is a Commissioner of the Governor’s Commission on Mental Health and Developmental Services and a member of the State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Gambling Counselors in Nevada. Dr. Nora is a recipient of the 2005 Herman Goldman Award, the highest award of the National Council on Problem Gambling, in recognition of a lifetime of personal commitment to problem gambling issues
Dr. Nora’s professional experience include 30 years of serving as Chief of Psychiatry in the VA Health Care System both in New Jersey and Las Vegas, Nevada. She is recognized
as a national pioneer in the field of problem gambling and other areas of expertise include clinical research, suicide, posttraumatic stress disorder and administrative psychiatry.
Dr. Nora served in many leadership roles in the Filipino American community and professional organizations both in the East Coast and the West coast of the United States.
She has received several honors for community service, including the Bana-ag Award
from Past President Corazon Aquino and Commission on Filipinos Overseas. Dr. Nora is
a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the US Army, Medical Corps. She is married to Demetrio T. Nora, M.D. ( UST Class 1957 graduate). They have three children, Yvette Nora, Production Manager of a Medical Publishing Company in New York, Dean T. Nora, M.D. an Oncology Surgeon and Family Court Judge Cheryl Nora Moss .
